DESCRIPTION

Monte Verità (Italian: truth mountain) rises over Ascona, picturesquely located at Lake Maggiore in the Swiss canton of Tessin. In the first two decades of the 20th century, it was the site of an artist colony that was deemed one of the most significant sources of alternative movements. Those seeking truth fled here from civilisation and sought romantic and nature-oriented ways of life. The mountain became legend thanks to the pacifists and emigrants who came together here, such as Gerhart Hauptmann, Ernst Bloch, Erich Maria Remarque and the dadaist Hugo Ball among many others.

“The truth about Monte Verita” is an evening composed of an expressionist silent interactive film, where the audience is meant to write the text of the movie through SMS and a subsequent live performance

The live performance »The truth about Monte Verità« concentrates on the 8 basic efforts of Rudolf von Laban (1879-1958), whose summer courses on Monte Verità were an important starting point for German expressive dance. His utopia of a liberating dance in harmony with nature stands in conjunction with the criticism of the increasing technologicalisation and industrialisation of modernity.

The artist colony had it height between the 2 world wars . Through 8 basic efforts of Rudolf Laban an expressionist dadaist performance is created that echoes dead, despair and the wish of lightness and diversion.
